We recently designed and manufactured a bespoke 1250A Form 4 Type 2 low voltage switchboard for a quarry located in the Northeast of England. Designed for a demanding and electrically harsh industrial environment, this switchboard delivers reliable power distribution, enhanced safety, and built-in energy efficiency. The panel features a 1250A Air Circuit Breaker (ACB) incomer, providing robust main circuit protection and system isolation. Constructed to Form 4 Type 2 standards in line with IEC 61439, the switchboard offers full segregation between busbars, terminals, and functional units, ensuring operator safety and simplifying maintenance procedures. To support power quality and energy efficiency, the switchboard incorporates a fully integrated automatic power factor correction (PFC) system, helping to reduce reactive power demand and improve overall system performance. Each outgoing way is protected by moulded case circuit breakers (MCCBs), complete with energy metering for accurate load monitoring and consumption analysis. In recognition of the elevated risk of transient overvoltages in a quarry environment, the panel includes Class 1+2 surge protection devices. This combination provides comprehensive protection against both lightning-induced surges and industrial switching events, safeguarding critical site equipment and infrastructure. Designed for long-term durability, the switchboard is housed in a heavy-duty powder-coated steel enclosure, suitable for the abrasive and rugged conditions typical of quarry operations. The internal arrangement has been configured to allow for ease of access, safe operation, and future expansion as site requirements evolve.
